Istat: Italian Exports See Temporary Dip in October, Underlying Strength Intact

According to data released by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat), Italy's exports fell by 3.0% month-on-month in October, while imports saw a marginal increase of 0.3%.

Year-on-year, exports grew by 2.3% and imports by 3.4%. Exports to the United States, a key driver of overall performance, rose by 9.7% compared to the same period last year.

Istat highlighted that export growth remains concentrated in a handful of high value-added sectors such as pharmaceuticals and machinery. In contrast, traditional sectors including food, metals, and automobiles have shown a more muted recovery following the U.S. imposition of tariffs on EU goods earlier this year.

In terms of trade balance, Italy recorded a surplus of €4.156 billion in October. Excluding energy trade, the surplus expands to €7.801 billion, indicating that non-energy exports continue to underpin the country's overall external trade.
